Health and Safety Officer (m/f/o)

Tasks

• Acting as the Health & Safety Supervisor across projects of varying complexity
  
  
  
• Conducting design and construction safety reviews/inspections on construction sites and operational facilities
  
  
  
• Ensuring compliance with local and international H&S legislation and best practices
  
  
  
• Supporting the Senior Partner in establishing and maintaining safety policies, procedures, and strategies
  
  
  
• Ensuring that company policies and statements are updated as needed
  
  
  
• Conducting site inspections and producing observation reports for contractor actions
  
  
  
• Investigating incidents, near-misses, and root causes, ensuring corrective actions are implemented
  
  
  
• Responding to emergency situations, incidents, and accidents efficiently
  
  
  
• Serving as a key liaison during OHSA or equivalent inspections
  
  
  
• Delivering safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and awareness briefings for site staff
  
  
  
• Reviewing Construction Method Statements and monitoring contractor safety performance
  
  
  
• Acting as the Health & Safety Representative, advocating for best practices and employee well being

Requirements

• A recognized qualification relating to health and safety with specialisation within the construction industry
  
  
  
• As a minimum applicantsshall possess a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety awarded by the University of Malta or MCAST or an equivalent qualification certified by MQRIC at level 5 or higher in the subject
  
  
  
• Registered on OHSA’s Competent Persons Register
  
  
  
• A proven track record with several years’ experience working within the AEC and/or construction industry
  
  
  
• Highly cognizant and abreast with all applicable standards and ISO standards legislations and practices applicable to Health and safety with particular relevance also to the Construction industry in Malta and particularly Occupational Health and Safety Authority Act XXVII of 2000
  
  
  
• Registered as a competent person with OHSA
  
  
  
• A valid driving licence required to carry out on—site inspections
  
  
  
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English
  
  
  
• Listening skills are also necessary to be able to obtain valuable information from respective parties
  
  
  
• Good organizational and record-keeping abilities to maintain records of all safety-related activities
  
  
  
• Ability to work under pressure and to work closely with others in a multidisciplinary environment
  
  
  
• Attention to detail influencing skills assertiveness and the ability to understand and express technical concepts accurately with confidence and clarity
  
  
  
• Proficient analytical skills and a measured approach to decision-making being able to take decisions as and when needed in the interest of health and safety and efficiency
  
  
  
• A motivated team player demonstrating an eager and positive work ethic
